Updating a mobile phone’s firmware is often the most sought after thing among mobile owners. Updating not only fixes bugs, but also adds new functionalities. Till today, updating was limited only to authorized service centers. Read on and find out how you can do this on your own without nullifying your warranty.
Nokia has now released Nokia Software Updater. The software allows mobile users to update the firmware on their own. No need to go to a service center now.
Nokia Software Updater is a free application that enables people to update the device software on compatible Nokia devices, including some of the world’s best selling 3G devices such as the Nokia N70, Nokia N73 and Nokia E61.
The software supports only limited models now. There are two methods of update available according to the model of your phone :
- Update over-the-air - Requires mobile internet and also there are usage charges.
- Update via PC - Requires an internet connection and a Nokia USB cable.
Before Updating your phone
- Take a back-up of your phone contents.
- Connect your phone to a power source using a charger and/or that the phone battery is adequately charged before starting the update.

March 28th, 2007 — Yahoo!
The space limits seem to be getting blurred. Yahoo! Mail has announced that it is going to provide unlimited email storage starting in May 2007. And this applies to everyone, no invites required.
If I am not wrong, GMail will soon follow suit and the ticking storage counter will be a thing of the past.
What a progress ! GMail started the storage space challenge and now Yahoo! has beat Google to the finish line. It will be the first global email company to give unlimited inbox space to its users.

March 26th, 2007 — Wordpress
After reading the simple SEO tips at Pearsonified , I was impressed by the fact that we can actually help Google index our blogs better by simply creating a XHTML Sitemap which links to all the internal pages in our blog. The XHTML sitemap also allows a visitor to see all posts that are there in your blog allowing them to explore further.
In short, a XHTML sitemap will be a great addition to your blog both in terms of usability and functionality.
Including a sitemap is easy, it’ll help your users, and it’s a great way to ensure that all the pages of your site are interlinked.
Chris Pearson has even provided a XHTML Sitemap Page Template which we can directly download and use in our blogs. The only problem is that the sitemap needs to be styled for the Wordpress theme you are using. There is also a super easy styling tutorial on Pearsonified on how to do this.
But if you are the one who is :
- Not too willing to delve into the PHP coding.
- Using the awesome Cleaker Wordpress theme.
- But still wanting to use this Sitemap feature
then here I come to your rescue. I have downloaded the XHTML sitemap and have now styled it so that it matches your Cleaker theme just perfectly. All you have to do is use it in your blog.
How To Use the XHTML Sitemap in your Cleaker wordpress theme
- Download the XHTML Sitemap for Cleaker Wordpress theme.
- Extract & Upload
sitemap.php to the Cleaker directory inside the Cleaker 2.0 theme directory.
- In your WordPress administration panel, go to Write —> Write Page.
- Fill in the post title as Sitemap.
- Do not enter anything into the text area of the post.
- From the Page Template dropdown box, select the template as Sitemap.
- When you’re done, click on “Create New Page”.
All done, now visit your blog to see a brand new Sitemap page with links to all your internal pages, blog post pages, category pages, monthly archive pages and feeds available for your blog.
This page will not only help Google index your blog better but also help your visitors in navigating your site better.
March 26th, 2007 — Humour, Linux
Forget the “Get a Mac” ads by Apple. Here is Novell’s spoof on Apple’s Mac ads. The ads feature a woman (presumably signifying that Linux is beautiful). There are 3 ads till now. I will post more if I find any.
Really hilarious and definitely worth a look. Show them to everybody who says Linux is not as good as Windows.
