Yahoo! Mail Classic revamped

You read it right. Yahoo! has announced on its blog that it is going in for a revamp of the Yahoo! Mail Classic interface.

Yahoo! has added several new features to its Classic mail and also removed some. Looks like Yahoo! is making another attempt to retain users who do not like the new Y! mail interface and want to move to GMail for its cool features.

Yahoo! mail blog writes :

The Classic team has been working diligently to fine tune the underlying technology for Classic Mail. That fine tuning is the foundation that has been critical not only in making the product available in Hindi, but also in making it easier to update features for all of Classic. In short, they are both part of the same overall project.

Some of the new features which Yahoo! has added are :

  1. Auto-save to Draft - Greate feature if your computer crashes while composing a mail.
  2. Address Book = Contacts - All references to “Address Book” got changed to “Contacts” in the new Yahoo! Mail Classic.
  3. Folder Renaming - Rename your Yahoo! mail folders from within the interface itself.
  4. Downloading - In most cases, downloading now requires just one click!
  5. Rich-text/Plain-text link - On the Compose page above the message window, you can click either Rich Text or Plain Text to select the format you prefer.

In short, some good new features to have. ;)

I think Yahoo! will be refining the Classic interface slowly to give a competition to GMail. And overall it will be good choice for the users too … ;)

So I signed up for the new Yahoo and now cannot access my mail. I don’t know how to get my old yahoo mail back. Tried to follow the link which said that my browser did not support the new format and to follow the link to get back to Yahoo Classic. This also did not work. I need my mail. Help! Of course, you cannot email me the answer because I cannot access my email and there is no spot here for an alternate email address.

Basically, the system is not working out so well for me. In fact, revamped is no good.

Different opinions for everyone … ;)

If you are going for a new mail account, then I would suggest you try GMail. :)

I have had both Yahoo and Gmail accounts for over a year. I have seen Yahoo make several strides to improve. All that I recall have had had glitches. Yahoo would recover, then faulter. Gmail in the meantime remained the same, but it has been a consistent performer. The platform also responds faster. I have dial-up. I also have a small-company server, which is unbelievable slow. Gmail responds more quickly consistently. Gmail has never dropped a message in the middle of a letter - never. Using the Gmail label system takes line space, but it is simple, very flexible, and the messages may be retrieved theoretically forever. I am not computer literate, but I have managed to understand the instructions to transfer my Google mail to the Yahoo accounts. It is simple and efficient. Google Toolbar in the same amount of time has improved four fold, in my opinion. Yahoo has made some improvement. Google “accessories” have become numerous, useful, and remain efficient. Two of the greatest leaps Google has made in my opinion have been in their “readers” and in their Blog systems. I have not read any reports on any of their products. My evaluation, as I said, is from a very elementary user perspective. I think that Google options have limitless possibilities for university students and/ or researchers.

Sincerely,
M. T. T.

How do I change my yahoo classic to the updated yahoo classic? I’m not talking about the newest version of yahoo mail; just the updated yahoo classic with features like autosave e-mails. Once again, I’m not referring to the new UI with the tabbed feature. I just want the slightly new version of yahoo mail CLASSIC. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sincerely,
seth Andale
