Nokia 5800 XpressMusic vs Apple iPhone

Technologizer has does a nice side by side comparision of the new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic with the Apple iPhone 3G. The Nokia 5800 comes with 8GB of memory, a single touch screen and Nokia Maps.

It does look similar to the iPhone and if the Nokia 5800 is retailing at 387$, it sure is going to attract a lot of buyers. Also it has got some nice features like a better camera with flash, video recording, voice dialing, and FM radio, which the iPhone currently lacks.

Will you buy it if it is cheaper than the iPhone ?

ReadAir – A desktop client for Google Reader

ReadAir LogoFrustrated of having to launch your browser everytime you want to read RSS feeds in your Google Reader ? DailyApps points out to a cool new Adobe Air application ReadAir which lets you read your Google Reader just like any other Desktop RSS reader.

ReadAir, a desktop interface for the online Google Reader comes with a cool new Mac OS X like skin which perfectly blends in if you have a Mac. It also looks equally good on WIndows systems as well. The ReadAir features the same layout as the online version of Google Reader. So you will have no problems in starting using the application.

But some features are missing. There is no offline mode for ReadAir at present, but the developer has that on his to-do list. Some of the other items on his to-do list are Keyboard shortcuts, Windows XP/Vista themes and custom themes as well.

To use ReadAir, you will first need to install the Adobe Air Runtime, and then the ReadAir installation package.

ReadAir looks pretty good for its first release. So do give it a try. :)

I am sure you will like it.

Spock – The search engine for people

Spock LogoWith the search engine market getting crowded with new search engines making an appearance everyday, Spock is a search engine which aims to be different. Spock is different because it does not index webpages. It indexes people on the web.

Just like you search Google using keywords, you enter a person’s name in Spock. And Spock displays all people with that name it has indexed with the most relevant name at the top. For example if you search for Sachin Tendulkar, it displays all people with “Sachin Tendulkar” as the name. The most relevant result at the top is that of the Sachin Tendulkar the batsman himself.

Where Spock really excels is after search, when you click on a result. When you click “Sachin Tendulkar” you get to see his photos, about him, where he was mentioned in news etc…

People can add tags, add photos and vote on existing metadata also. You can also sign up with Spock and add your own data also.

So where does Spock get this people data from ? Simple. It indexes social networks like LinkedIn and Facebook and also Wikipedia to get people data.

Looks interesting…..

Delete empty directories in your Windows PC with RED

A Windows only program, RED is a nifty little utility for deleting empty directories in your Windows system. RED stands for Remove Empty directories and helps you in batch deleting folders which are empty.

Just point RED at the drive you want to clean up. RED scans and gives you a list of all empty folders in that drive. You can target a folder too. Then hit the button “Delete All” to get rid of those folders. Or if you want you can selectively delete folders.

I found this program to be very useful when I had auto-organized by music files which left behind a lot of empty folders. ;)
