Install Pidgin 2 with all plugins on Ubuntu Feisty

With Pidgin 2 yet to make an appearance in Ubuntu Feisty repositories even after two weeks of its release, I was a getting a little bit impatient to use it. So I resorted to the manual method of installing it. You can get the plain Pidgin 2 deb from GetDeb. But it is no fun using Pidgin without any plugins. So my friend Kalpik has compiled a .deb for all the Pidgin plugins and put it up for download.Pidgin 2 Logo

Install Pidgin 2 with all plugins

Install the above packages and there you have it… Pidgin 2 running with all plugins on Ubuntu Feisty. ;)

P.S. - Pidgin will not replace Gaim in your system. Rather they will both be available in your system. If you want to remove Gaim, you can uninstall Gaim manually or wait for the Pidgin update in repos which will automatically remove Gaim.

Get PC’s pre-installed with Ubuntu : Dell

Ubuntu LogoYet another reason why Ubuntu rocks. Dell has announced a strategic partnership with Canonical (the developers of Ubuntu) to sell computers with Ubuntu Linux pre-installed on them.

In February when Dell launched IdeaStorm as forum for customers to contribute ideas for product offerings, we received overwhelming feedback that customers wanted Linux on desktops and notebooks.

As part of an overall effort to update our Linux program, today we are announcing a partnership with Canonical to offer Ubuntu on select consumer desktop and notebook products.

This will be the first time a PC manufacturer will be selling computers pre-installed with Linux. Dell will be installing Ubuntu 7.04 on the computers.

You can read the full story here. And while you are reading it, do not forget to watch Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth’s video on Linux and its adoption on desktop. :)

Novell’s spoof on Apple’s “Get a Mac” ads

Forget the “Get a Mac” ads by Apple. Here is Novell’s spoof on Apple’s Mac ads. The ads feature a woman (presumably signifying that Linux is beautiful). There are 3 ads till now. I will post more if I find any. ;)

Really hilarious and definitely worth a look. Show them to everybody who says Linux is not as good as Windows. :P
